Debt Collection is big business in Dublin. Any small business owner will be familiar with the old lines 'The cheque is in the post' or ' I haven't recieved the invoice - can you send it again'. The Irish have unfortunately got a very poor track record when it comes to payign bills on time and this can off course cripple any small business trying to manage their cash flow successfully. Debt Collection agencies pursue payments on behalf of their clients for a fee or percentage of the total amount owed. If a company is running into a cashflow crisis, they could for example, engage the services of a debt collection agency who would pay them 80% of what is owed. THe debt collection agency will then pursue the outstanging money and will then on successfull collection, will retain the 20% difference as their fee. Debt collection agencies have a reputation for being heavy handed when pursuing the money - and in many cases this is all it take to get the debtor to pay up the money.
