Estate Agents assist in the buying and selling of private residential and commercial property. Estate agents in dublin enjoyed a few boom years arounf 2005-2007, but with the recent downturn in property prices, they have been finding it a lot toughter to keep afloat. In a falling property market such as we have seen in 2008, buyers are not prepared to pay the full asking price, and sellers are disinclined to sell their property for less than what they think it is worth. So there is a stand-off with the result that there is a dramatic reduction in the volume of property chaning hands. Estate agents make their money from facilitating the transfer in ownership, so when that stops happening, they stop makign their money. There are presently a lot of unsold properties, particularly apartments, in the Dublin area, so it will be interesting times for estate agents for over the next few years.
